ABOUT CHEF TOMMY MIAH (MBE)
Tommy Miah, a renowned chef and entrepreneur, established his culinary presence in Edinburgh with the founding of Raj Restaurant. In 1991, he launched the International Indian Chef of the Year Competition, which draws over 5,000 participants globally, aiming to foster innovation and excellence in Indian cuisine. This prestigious event also raises funds for the Sreepur Village Orphanage in Bangladesh. Miah's culinary expertise has been recognized internationally, as he was chosen to lead the inaugural South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Food Festival in Delhi and represent Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Foreign Office's culinary event. He also founded the Tommy Miah Institute of Hospitality Management, training Bangladeshis in the international hospitality industry. Additionally, Miah owns the Original Raj Hotel in Murrayfield and The Heritage Restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His notable achievements include catering a special curry lunch at 10 Downing Street for former Prime Minister John Major's 50th birthday, creating the world's largest curry, and pioneering Indian meals on international flights. Miah has also authored cookbooks, developed recipes for prominent manufacturers, and supported various charitable organizations in Bangladesh and the UK, including Cancer Research UK and the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital. He conducts food hygiene classes in refugee camps in Bangladesh and sponsors international students to study in the UK.
